Ward
The Child and Adolescent Unit (CAU) is comprised of two wards. Ward 16 is an outpatient ward, and Ward 17 is an inpatient ward.

Visiting
Ward 16 – One resident parent/guardian can swap freely with an alternative parent/carer to be with their child.

Ward 17 – One resident parent/guardian resident at all times. A second parent/carer can be resident between 10am and 7pm. Two visitors (including siblings) are permitted to visit between 3.30 and 4.30pm on weekdays, 10.30-11.30am and 3.30-4.30pm on weekends.

 

Travel Information

Travelling by car
If you are travelling from the south, leave the M6 at junction 16 and follow the well signposted route to Crewe and Leighton Hospital.

If you are traveling from the north leave the M6 at Junction 18 and follow signs for Middlewich. Take the A530 out of Middlewich and follow signs for Crewe and Leighton Hospital.

Visitors travelling by public transport
Crewe station is the nearest mainline railway station. The hospital is a short taxi journey from the station. Alternatively, a local bus service runs from the station to the hospital.

Ward Facilities

The Child and Adolescent Unit (CAU) is comprised of two wards. Ward 16 is an outpatient ward, and Ward 17 is an inpatient ward.

Ward 17 has 4 high dependency beds

Ward 16 has an assessment unit and deals with day cases

The staff on CAU work closely with the Paediatric Physiotherapy Team and the Paediatric Pharmacist, who are based on the Ward

The Play Team provide distraction for all children during invasive procedures, to reduce anxiety and provide a positive experience. They provide toys, craft sessions, DVD’s and DVD players in order to prevent the children from getting bored. The Play Team are closely involved in pre-operative assessment clinics and assist in taking distressed children to Theatre for surgery in order to reduce anxieties and to provide a positive experience.

Parents have a kitchen and there are limited sleeping facilities (as well as parents sleeping at bedside)
